We offer several different programs for members to become involved with the Beethoven! From German singing societies, band, and language lessons there is always a part of German culture to explore and celebrate.
Founded in 1867, the Beethoven Männerchor has long been a leader in San Antonio’s German community. It is the oldest German choir west of the Mississippi River.
Every member is welcome to join us! The Männerchor participate in regional, state and national Saengerfests with other clubs. The Männerchor also perform regularly at our Oktoberfest, Gartenkonzerts and other events at our Halle und Garten.
Beethoven Damenchor was founded on March 22, 1932. The choir performs at the same events as the Männerchor.
Funded in 1943, the Beethoven Concert Band is a group of 50 musicians with a repertoire ranging from march music to waltzes. The band performs at our annual Fiesta Gartenfest, Oktoberfest and monthly Gartenkonzerts. The Beethoven German Dance Band – a subset of the concert band – plays oompah music and other Biergarten classics.
German Classes are offered at Beethoven as part of our mission of cultural awareness and preservation. As an esteemed San Antonio German club we are happy to open our doors to those who are eager to learn. Register at the main bar of the Beethoven Halle und Garten.
Classes run from the 2nd week of January thru the 2nd week of March
*All classes are one hour long & held on the first floor of the mansion adjacent to Beethoven Biergarten.
We are happy to announce that our San Antonio Samstagsschule as well as adult classes are moving to the Beethoven Männerchor location in The Mansion. We are excited for this new opportunity to partner with Beethoven Männerchor and its long standing German-Texan traditions.
The “Mansion” at the Beethoven Männerchor is a beautiful Victorian house with ample room for all our language classes. The fenced in Biergarten allows for plenty of space for outdoor play. The Biergarten opens at 4pm on Saturdays, so there won’t be any conflict. Classes that fall on Beethoven’s festival days will be rescheduled.
If you haven’t met our teachers yet, you’re in for a treat. They are passionate about igniting your passion for the German
Here is an overview of who’s teaching what and when. Please follow the links to learn more about our teachers and classes.
Andrea will be teaching our German 1 for kids at 9:30am. At 12:00PMshe will teach the A1.2 class for adults as well as the Intermediate Conversational German at 2PM.
Agnes will teach the Vorschule class at 9:30AM, German 2 for teens at 11:45AM, as well as a beginning German A1.1 class for adults at 2:00PM.
Flavia will be teaching the Beginning Conversational German Class for adults at 10:00AM, the Intermediate German for Kids at 12:00PM as well as the Advanced German for Kids at 2:00PM.
As an adult, if you don’t know any German, you would start with the A1.1 class, move through each section. Each of these sections will take you a semester. When you’ve reached the A2 level, you can consider taking a beginning conversational class. We do not recommend taking it before you have completed all three A1 levels.
If you have some understanding of the German language, you are welcome to join in beginning conversational classes. If the class has at least 4 participants, you can just drop in for a session to see if it’s a good fit for you.
Our children’s classes are grouped by age and skill levels.
